Working Wednesay: Respect Your Manager

This piece of advice is near to my heart due to a situation a family member is in. He is the "manager" that does not have the respect from one of his employees due to something outside of his control.

If your managers annoys you because you don't agree with their personal choices or think they don't deserve the position, it may be best to just let those feelings go.  Some specific examples would be:
  • Their choice in spouse
  • The way they raise their children
  • Their age
  • Where they went to school
  • The way they do their hair
Don't gossip with coworkers about your manager.  Don't tell your manager you don't have to listen to him or her.   (You would think that one would be common sense - but, surprisingly, it happened to a family member for one of the reasons listed above.)

Learn to appreciate how they got to where they are and respect the position, even if you can't figure out how to respect the person.

Emergency Kit Series: Shoes

My husband and I don't always wear shoes in our home so there is a chance that if a disaster strikes quickly we wouldn't have time to put them on.  For this reason, I decided to include an old pair of shoes in the kit for each of us.

Change

CHANGE.

I am afraid of change.  I am afraid of venturing into the unknown.  I am afraid I won't know how to handle the new situation.  I am afraid I'll miss what was.

“Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.”-Karen Kaiser Clark

Change is going to happen. It just is.  I can't stop it.  I know because I have tried.

However, with each change comes to opportunity for growth.  A chance to be a different, better version of myself.  A chance to grow.

The next time I am faced with a change that overwhelms me, I'm going to try to find the growth opportunity in it..

Working Wednesday: It's Fine to Not Know

Even the most prepared person gets asked an unexpected question from time-to-time.  The answers to these questions sometimes don't just roll off the tongue.  It's fine to admit that.  It's better to admit you don't know an answer than to make one up.  If you are wrong, you may find yourself having to do more work to fix the situation.

However, don't just stop at saying you don't know.  Let the person know you want to do some research to get them the correct answer.  Then look through your notes, make a phone call or whatever else you need to do and get back to the person as soon as possible.

If you establish yourself as someone who will return with an answer quickly, then it will be fine for you not know every answer in the moment.

Emergency Kit Series: Prescriptions

I take two prescription medications.  Neither are necessary for survival but I included a month's supply in my kit.  That way if something happens to our home but we are able to keep the kit, I won't have to worry about refills for a while.

One Habit

I struggle with developing habits.  I always have a lot of good ideas about what I want to do.  However, I lose motivation when it comes to putting the idea into practice

I have been reading a series about habits on MoneySavingMom.  In a recent post, Crystal mentioned how developing one habit can lead to several more.  She encouraged her readers to not get discouraged by only focusing on one habit at a time.

I had been feeling pretty proud of myself for making my daily workout a priority recently and I was beginning to consider it a habit.  Then my husband and I got sick.  The combination of not feeling well and having him home during the day, has led me to miss several days.

I forgive myself for missing the workouts.  However, I know there are many reasons why I need to get myself back on track. Exercising isn't just about the 60 minutes I spend doing it.

I notice when I workout that I have more natural energy.  I need less caffeine to get through the day.  I'm more motivated to accomplish everything else on my to-do list.  But there are other benefits to regular exercise.  These include:
  • Weight loss
  • Controlling high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes
  • Improved mood
  • Better sleep
Those are a lot of benefits from one habit and an hour a day!
